Tom Coughlin has been long considered one of the NFL's best and most respected active coaches. He was hired by the New York Giants in 2004 following a successful career as Jacksonville's head coach, and in his five years of coaching the team he has led the Giants to the playoffs four years in a row (2005-2008) and won one Super Bowl in 2008 defeating the much favoured New England Patriots 17-14.

In 2004 Eli Manning was the first pick in the NFL draft by the San Diego Chargers, but later that day was traded to the New York Giants. In three of his four years as a starter he has led the Giants to the postseason, and in 2008 he had an amazing run in the playoffs that ended with a victory for the Giants in Super Bowl XLII against the previously undefeated New England Patriots, earning him the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award.
Team Info
The Giants are one of the oldest teams in NFL history as they were formed in 1925 by Tim Mara, whose family still own the team. Along the way, the New York team has won four NFL championships and three Super Bowls during a storied history featuring some of the NFL's greatest players. New York's victories in the Super Bowl came in 1987, 1991 and most recently at the end of a 2008 season that saw them defeat the New England Patriots. They also reached the final in 2001 but lost to the Baltimore Ravens. After several tough years the franchise brought in disciplinarian head coach Tom Coughlin who began turning the team around leading them to an NFC East title in 2005. In 2008 the team became the Super Bowl champs after a 10-6 campaign that saw them make the playoffs as a wildcard team. One of their regular season wins came on the road at Wembley against the Miami Dolphins in the first NFL regular season game to be played outside of North America. The Giants claimed that experience on the road brought them closer as a team and helped them muster the strength to win three road playoff games and then stun the previously undefeated New England Patriots with a 17-14 win in Super Bowl XLII. They again won the NFC East in 2008, but were eliminated from the playoffs by the Philadelphia Eagles.
