Sean Payton began his head coaching career when he was hired by the New Orleans Saints in 2006. In his rookie season as a head coach with the Saints he helped lead a team that was 3-13 the previous season to a 10-6 regular season record and a trip to the NFC Championship game, while also earning himself the Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year award. The Saints missed out on the postseason in each of the two seasons since then, but have continued to delight their fans with an oustanding offensive output.

Drew Brees started out his career with the San Diego Chargers before joining the Saints in 2006. In 2008, Brees became only the second quarterback to pass for more than 5,000 yards in a season, posting 5,069 yards - 14 short of Dan Marino's single-season record - but the team missed out on the playoffs.
Team Info
The Saints made their NFL debut in 1967, but their long-suffering fans endured years of mediocrity before New Orleans made their first playoff appearance in the 1987 season. The Saints enjoyed their best spell in the early 1990s when they reached the playoffs but lost in the first round at the conclusion of the 1990, 1991 and 1992 seasons. Their 2005 campaign was ruined after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the Superdome - the team's home stadium - forcing them to play their 'home' games in San Antonio, Baton Rouge and even New York. A 3-13 finish meant that head coach Jim Haslett was fired, and he was replaced by Sean Payton. Payton's first year yielded the Saints' best campaign ever, as they won the NFC South with a 10-6 season, and then stormed through the playoffs to meet the Chicago Bears in the NFC Championship. In 2007, the Saints won eight games - including one at London's Wembley Stadium, where they beat the San Diego Chargers 37-32 in only the second NFL International Series game. With Drew Brees coming off a stellar season and a potent offense that also includes running back Reggie Bush and wide receiver Marques Colston, the Saints are sure to score a lot of points in 2009.
