Brad Childress began his head coaching career when he was hired by the Minnesota Vikings in 2006. In his rookie season as a head coach the Vikings struggled to a 6-10 record. One year later the Vikings increased their win total to go 8-8, but they lost their last two games to just miss out on making the playoffs. In 2008 the Vikings secured their first postseason berth under Childress, going 10-6 to win the NFC North, but losing their Wild-Card playoff game to the Philadelphia Eagles.

In his rookie season he led the NFC with 1,341 rushing yards, broke the single game record for most yards rushed for by getting 296 yards against the San Diego Chargers (11/4/2007), was selected as a starter in the Pro Bowl and earned the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. In his second NFL campaign he finished with 1,760 rushing yards, helping the Vikings secure the NFC North title.

Team Info

The Vikings were formed in 1960 and began playing in the NFL a year later. The club's best, and ultimately most frustrating, years came in the 1970s when they were led by a strong defense known as the 'Purple People Eaters' and appeared in four Super Bowls in eight seasons. The Vikings lost on each occasion and join the Buffalo Bills with a league-worst 0-4 record in the big game. Minnesota has not returned to the Super Bowl since 1977 but came close in 1988 and 1999 when they lost both times in the NFC Championship game. The Vikings went to the playoffs in 2004 but missed out in 2005 after finishing with a 9-7 record. That cost head coach Mike Tice his job, and the Vikings appointed former Philadelphia offensive coordinator Brad Childress as head coach. His first season ended with the team at 6-10, but the addition of electric running back Adrian Peterson helped the team to win the NFC North title two years later - the team's first division crown since 2000.
