Ken Whisenhunt became an NFL head coach for the first time when hired by Arizona on January 14, 2007. He came to the Cardinals with 10 years of experience as an NFL assistant coach and was a proven winner after being part of the Pittsburgh Steelers' Super Bowl XL-winning coaching staff. In his second season in charge of the Cardinals, Whisenhunt did something nobody had managed to do before - leading the Cardinals to a Super Bowl berth.

Larry Fitzgerald is a young talented receiver who is a three-time Pro Bowler. In 2008 he enjoyed a breakout season, finishing second in the NFL with 1,431 receiving yards and scoring 12 touchdowns during the regular season. He played even better during an incredible post-season run that saw the Cardinals reach Super Bowl XLIII, almost single-handedly propelling Arizona to their first ever Super Bowl berth with a record-setting three touchdowns in their NFC Championship game win over Philadelphia.
Team Info
The Cardinals were founded in 1898 and are the oldest team in the NFL. The team boasts a colorful history and has been known as the Morgan Athletic Club, the Normals, Racine Cardinals, Chicago Cardinals, St. Louis Cardinals, Phoenix Cardinals and finally the Arizona Cardinals. Despite their long history, the Cardinals have won just two NFL championships and have never reached a Super Bowl in the modern era. They have not had a winning season since 1998, when they briefly flirted with success by reaching the playoffs and beating Dallas in the first round before being knocked out by Minnesota at the quarter-final stage. The Cardinals became the first team in the NFL to play a 'home' game outside of the United States when they played the 49ers in Mexico City in 2005. A crowd of more than 103,000 packed Azteca Stadium for the game. In February 2008 the Cardinals' new University of Phoenix Stadium hosted Super Bowl XLII, and one year later Arizona stunned the NFL by reaching their first Super Bowl. Despite finishing the season with an 8-8 record, Arizona won the weak NFC West division. They then stormed through the playoffs, beating Atlanta, Carolina and Philadelphia - all of whom were favoured to win their games - before coming up against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Tampa Bay, Florida, in Super Bowl XLIII. The fairy-tale ending did not happen for the Cardinals, however, and they lost 27-23 in the final seconds of the Super Bowl after threatening to upset the Steelers.
