The New Orleans Saints' 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV made them the second team to have won one of the NFL International Series games in London and then go on to become Super Bowl champions.

After the 2007 season, the New York Giants followed a 17-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins at Wembley Stadium in the first NFL regular season game to be played outside of North America by defeating the New England Patriots 17-14 in a memorable performance at Super Bowl XLII in Arizona.

The Saints visited London as the hosts for the second NFL International Series fixture in 2008, defeating the San Diego Chargers 37-32, and just one season later have been crowned as champions of the NFL.

During the run-in to Super Bowl XLIV, New Orleans head coach Sean Payton and his players credited the team's week-long visit to London as the perfect preparation for their stay in Miami ahead of their game against the Colts.

There are definitely some similarities between that experience and coming here for the Super Bowl," said Payton.

"I think there are a lot of similarities between the Super Bowl and our London trip, which was a very positive experience for us." agreed Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jon Stinchcomb. "All in all, I really enjoyed it and I think we found London a great experience and it definitely helps us to prepare this week."

With the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers competing in London in 2009, and the San Francisco 49ers due to host the Denver Broncos at Wembley on October 31st this year, teams will be queuing to participate in future International Series game and have some of the UK's magic dust sprinkled on their season.
