Redskins sign Johnson

The Washington Redskins have signed troubled Pro Bowl running back Larry Johnson to deepen a backfield that already contains Clinton Portis. Johnson agreed to a deal with a base value of $3.5 million, but he could make as much as $12 million if he meets certain incentives.

Merlin Olsen passes

Hall of Fame Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Merlin Olsen died on Thursday after a battle with cancer at the age of 69. Olsen formed part of the famous ‘Fearsome Foursome' defensive line of the Rams that dominated the sport in the 1970's.

Bengals ink Bryant

The Cincinnati Bengals have signed wide receiver Antonio Bryant, adding a complimentary receiver for Chad Ochocinco but possibly ensuring that Terrell Owens - who the team also hosted on Tuesday - will not be signed.

Vikings meet LT

The Minnesota Vikings have set about the task of wooing record-breaking running back LaDainian Tomlinson, hosting him on Wednesday night ahead of meetings due to take place on Thursday with their coaching staff. The Vikings are looking to add Tomlinson to a backfield that could also include star quarterback Brett Favre and running back Adrian Peterson.

Mason returns to Ravens

Wide receiver Derrick Mason will return to the Baltimore Ravens after signing a two-year deal with the team. Mason will combine with recent acquisitions Anquan Boldin and Donte Stallworth to form a potent Baltimore passing attack.

Jones is a Chief

The Kansas City Chiefs have bolstered their running game by signing former New York Jet Thomas Jones to a two-year deal. Jones finished the 2009 season as the NFL's third-ranked rusher, and helped his former team to the AFC Championship game.

Browns cut Anderson

The Cleveland Browns have cut quarterback Derek Anderson, ending a five-year stint with the team that saw him claim a starting job, win a Pro Bowl berth, and then lose his job entirely. As he exited the club, Anderson let rip on the Browns fans.

Broncos add beef

The Denver Broncos added some much needed beef to their defensive line on Tuesday, signing nose tackle Jamal Williams and defensive end Jarvis Green. Both players have previous experience of working in a 3-4 defense like the one the Broncos run.

Brit Lloyd signs with Vikes

The Minnesota Vikings have signed British kicker Rhys Lloyd as a kick-off specialist on a two-year contract. Dover-born kicker Lloyd signed a two-year deal with the Vikings just a week after being cut by the Carolina Panthers.

Familiar faces return to Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers brought back two familiar faces Monday. Wide receiver Antwaan Randle El, who spent his first four NFL seasons in Pittsburgh, accepted a three-year deal to return to the Steelers, and safety Ryan Clark spurned an offer from the Miami Dolphins to remain with the Steelers.
